Gospel of Romans: Grace is not a Licence

24th March 2013 | David Bareham

David reads the whole of chapter 6 this morning and breaks it down into bite size chunks to help us understand what Paul is saying. We hear that by God’s grace we are saved, our sins are forgiven, we are justified and we are sanctified. David tells us that because of the forgiveness that God’s grace gives us, that doesn’t mean we can carry on sinning….’No’….we have to change our ways to become more like Him! When God forgives us of our sins, we leave our old life behind. We have packed up and ‘moved house’ and have started a new life in a new place!

Gospel of Romans: Three men of great impact

17th March 2013 | Alastair Windus

Before hearing from Romans, Alastair gives us a summary of how sin and death came into the world through Adam in Genesis. Alastair reminds us that we are all born selfish and that we have to be taught how to be nice, kind and caring. He answers the question ‘How can I be held responsible for  something that Adam did all that time ago’. We have life through Christ. He died on the cross so that we can be justified and not condemned. We also receive the gift of righteousness. Under Adam, we have, sin, condemnation and death. But in Jesus, we have, Righteousness, justification and life.

Gospel of Romans: Good to Go

11th March 2013 | Leon Ringelmann

What makes us ‘Good to Go’ for the Gospel? After an explanation of how the actor Daniel Day Lewis uses method acting to really get into the character, Leon tells us that in Romans 5 we are encouraged to learn ‘Method Christianity’. We are justified through faith; we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. But, we must not try to emulate Christ – He will find us where we are and He will come into our lives and make us secure in Him.

Gospel of Romans: Less Is More

24th February 2013 | Leon Ringelmann

To set the scene for today’s message, Leon uses a high profile court case in session at the moment to help us visualise our teaching for this morning. God is the judge of all the earth and the evidence is stacked against us. Every human on earth is sinful before God. We are taught today that we are to rely less on trying to muddle through ourselves. This will allow us to rely more on God and to build a better relationship with Him.

Gospel of Romans: Magnificent Transformation

17th February 2013 | David Bareham

David delivers a powerful message today and compares our righteousness to God’s. We all fall short, because in verse 23 it says. “All have sinned”. Through God’s grace and Jesus dying on the cross, we are justified and set free – “Redeemed”. David asks, “How do we receive this justification and redemption”? The answer is……”To have faith in Jesus Christ”

Gospel of Romans: Saves from Destruction

10th February 2013 | Malcolm Sullivan

In part two of our look at Romans we hear how Paul directed his message to four groups of people around at the time. Although it was aimed at a different culture to the one we live in now – it is still highly relevant to the way we live our lives today.
