Romans 8 – Part Four21st August 2016 | David Bareham
In this, the last of our look at Romans 8, David’s theme is ‘Love and Life’. He reads from verse 28 and before delving into today’s word he references some teaching by John Stott whereby from these passages are derived:- ‘Five Unshakable Convictions’, ‘Five Affirmations’ and ‘Five Questions’
David gets quite passionate as he unpacks the three ‘Fives’ and quite rightly too. If his message today doesn’t show that God is with us…I don’t think anything will
Romans 8 – Part Three14th August 2016 | David Bareham
The title for David’s message today is “The Price and the Prize” and he wastes no time and dives straight into Romans 8:12
From that reading he brings us four main points and in doing so, reinforces a fact that we have heard many times. That if we are living by the Spirit, it must show outwardly to our friends, co-workers and neighbours.
But even though we have the Holy Spirit within us, we will still suffer. David tells us not to despair! We have the glory of God now, but this is nothing compared to what we can expect when we meet Him face to face. David gives us a visual representation of this to help us understand what is to come and to remind us that God is with us…..always…..even in our struggles!
Romans 8 – Part Two31st July 2016 | David Bareham
After a short intro to this mini series, David reads from Romans 8 and today we learn about “Life in the Spirit”
He goes on to take a very funny look at some of the choices we can and do make in life. As Christians though, we have to make the biggest choice of our lives. That is “Do we live in the Spirit or continue to live in the flesh”? Of course, that isn’t a choice…..but what David is saying is that when we live in the Spirit, we have to show it! He also brings us a brilliant quote, which is “The decisions that matter are the ones that change who we are. Not the ones that determine what we do”
David asks the question “What are the marks of a Spirit filled follower of Jesus”? He then gives us eight examples. If we ask ourselves “How do we live or walk according to the Spirit”? The answer is simple…..We must be filled with the Spirit!
Romans 8 – Part One24th July 2016 | David Bareham
In April 2013, we listened to a series on Romans and before he starts today, David gives us a quick summary of what we heard.
Throughout this summer holiday period, we will be going back to Romans 8 and picking some key topics from this book. Today, David looks at three subjects:- Substitution, Sanctification and Security.
In Romans chapter 8, we are reminded that Jesus was fully human, like us, but was totally without sin. But still, he died on the cross as a sin offering, so that we could be saved. This fulfilled the Law of the Old Testament. When we become more like Christ, we are sanctified and this is the work of the Holy Spirit.
We have security in our Father God and we have the comfort that he watches over us and protects us from the things of this world, which sometimes, are the work of the devil. Nothing can separate us from the love of God.
